In the late forties Ayisaa was the venue for all Christian picnics and other outdoor activities to its strategic location and beauty not to mention the hospitality of the inhabitants.

Ayisaa was also noted for its carving of stools and other crafts. In the early sixties, Amazonia cocoa was introduced in Ghana and Ayisaa was chosen for experimental farms for the production and distribution of the new cocoa seed, and this project was very successful. Cocoa farmers from other parts of the country travelled to Ayisaa for their new cocoa seed. In no time, Ayisaa had become a household name especially in the cocoa growing communities.

About two decades ago (1980’s), a son of Ayisaa introduced herbal post in a wooden structures for the treatment of various ailments notably stroke at Ayisaa. Baffour Atua Kroko I was the founder and also the Odikro at Ayisaa. He was known in private life as Stephen Mintah Yirenkyi and his last place of work was Kwadwo Asante Quarry at Ayisaa.

He started the herbal treatment as a hobby after being trained by his Uncle, Opanyin Kofi Kwayisi at Asuoyaa, a village near Koforidua. He started going house to house to treat people who were in need.

When his uncle became old, he started referring cases from Asuoyaa to Baffour Atua Kroko I at Ayisaa. When people saw the efficacy of his herbs (Medicine) they started trooping in. This created a problem for him at his workplace (Kwadwo Asante Quarry) so he resigned and erected a shelter to start with. He invited two of his brothers to help him in his herbal medication. He was finding it difficult paying his brothers because he was not charging the patients.

The patients who were also healed do not come back to say even thank you. The Late Baffour Atua I moved from the shelter to a permanent wooden structure and because of his belief in Christ, he named the centre after his uncle hence the name Kwayisi Christian Herbal Centre. They made extensions of wooden structures and employed people to assist him in his activities. He had vision and fore-sight for his work so he bought some lands for permanent structures in future. He also joined all the associations related to herbal treatment in the country for advices.

He focused on his permanent structures and trained one of his sons Prof. H/Dr. Ampem Darko Emmanuel and also let him went for education on Herbal medicine for posterity. He used to say, son lets invest in the physical structures and we shall be blessed abundantly in future. Patients started coming to Ayisaa in their numbers from all parts of the country and outside Ghana for treatment of their various ailments. Now Prof. H/Dr. Emmanuel Ampem Darko is the Chief Executive Officer of the facility
